Skincare Essentials – Part 1

Skincare Essentials – Part 1

I’m often asked during consultations and facials what I think people should be using on their skin and which products I recommend. Of course, the answers to this usually need to be quite personalised for each individual, but there are certainly some excellent all-rounders that most skin types and conditions can benefit from.

Ask any skin care specialist or dermatologist for their list of go-to products and I’m pretty certain that Vitamin C will be somewhere at the top. Vitamin C is excellent at brightening, protecting against skin aggressors and fighting the signs of ageing.

But I eat loads of oranges… Why do I need to put Vitamin C on my skin? Of course you can eat your way to a healthy Vitamin C intake but applying it topically is actually 20 times more potent than ingesting it through food or supplements.

So what does it do exactly?…

Always apply Vitamin C in the mornings and it is most effective in a serum form. Serums can penetrate through the skin barrier more easily than creams or toners. My absolute favourite is Dermalogica Biolumin-C Serum. This is a high performance product that works with the skins own defences to brighten and firm. Key features:

– Exfoliates and balances uneven pigmentation
– Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
– Prevents and corrects Free Radical damage

Vitamin C also inhibits melanin production which will help to lighten hyperpigmentation, even out brown spots and give wonderful skin radiance. So this is something which should be a vital component of our skin care routines living here under the fierce and unforgiving Ibiza sun

You can maximise the benefits of Vitamin C by combining it with other antioxidants. Alongside Vitamin E for example, they will both have optimal absorption benefits when it comes to anti ageing, brightening and protection from free radicals. However, never mix Vitamin C with retinol as they have conflicting PH levels. Vitamin C is best in the mornings, Retinol always at night-time
